Before I retired I thought that, after I retired, I would organize monthly book club meetings for the poor in our neighborhood, tying up with the library of the nearest university. The objective would be to raise the intellectual level of the community. Our neighborhood already has an art gallery, after all--why not a book club on top of it, and, to be even more ambitious, a theater group?

Unfortunately I now I see this as too much work and as a distraction from my writing, painting, and knitting.
