Wishing I had the time to read up on Russian mythology, Chinese mythology, and Australian mythology.

So far I can see how, in folk tales, the Russian firebird became the Chinese nightingale and then the Philippine adarna, but am wondering how, during the downward flow to the south, it became serpentine in Australia. Unless the Australian serpent had wings, like the Indo-Hindu naga.
