Why You Often Forget That You Are In A Third-World Country

--Everyone has gadgets and regularly updates them.
--Food delivery to your house is only a phone call away.
--Malls are attractive and seemingly thriving.
--There are all kinds of restaurants to suit your fancy.
--There are art galleries, and art is alive.
--There are commercial theaters, although serious theater is always on the fringe.
--Carpenters, masons, and iron workers can produce exactly what you like.
--You can buy designer clothes, bags, and shoes because they are readily available.
--Almost everyone speaks English and pronounces words correctly. Even tricycle drivers will correct you if necessary.
--Almost everyone has a sense of fashion.

And yet, did you ever stop to think that all of it is a veneer, or an illusion? You create only what you think makes you look good--but what about the REAL mise-en-scene, what about the majority of adults and children who are hungry, homeless, unemployed, out of school, addicted to substance, and trampled on unjustly? Why do you not see them? Why do you run away from them? Why do you perceive them as low-life, as criminals, as maids and houseboys?

Whenever you run away, where do you think you are going?

Is it not you who is an atchay?
